Join Montgomery County ACS

We are delighted that you are interested in becoming a member of Montgomery County Auxiliary Communications Service. Membership is not required to browse the website, and we encourage you to do so prior to submitting an application for membership. Please note that membership is limited to those who have the capability and commitment to play an active role in the organization.  Please be sure to take a look at our mission, organization, and membership policy before submitting your application.

There are several steps in the application process. The first step is to register for the website by providing a username, password, and email address. We have a “Captcha” widget on the registration form. Just click the check box to indicate that you are a real human, then click the Register button.  After a few minutes, you will receive an email. We use this method to validate your email address, not because we don’t trust you, but because this helps to prevent hackers from gaining access to the site. I so protects against a mistyped email address, which creates headaches down the road.

When you click on the link in the email, you will be presented with the membership application form. Please fill in the requested information. When finished, click on the “Save” button. This is important.

Within a few days, someone from our Membership Committee will review your application / member profile to verify the information you have provided and determine your eligibility for membership. We may contact you if we have any questions. At the conclusion of this step, we will notify you via email of your enrollment as an Associate Member.

In most cases, the registration process goes very smoothly. However, on a routine basis, we have hackers who register on the website to see if they can find anything of value. For that reason, if no information appears in your profile after a few days, indicating a nexus with Montgomery County, we will delete the registrant. To avoid this, please take a couple of minutes to provide at least basic information in your profile.

Once you have reached Associate Member status, you will be added to our email list (but we promise not to swamp you with junk mail).  Add this point, we will ask you for additional information about your technical and/or operational interests, capabilities, and resources. This information is key to our being able to provide services in times of need, and will also help us to match you up with other members who have similar interests.

Full Membership requires completion of several online training courses that are offered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. While you are waiting for your application to be processed, you can review the training section of the website and work on fulfilling those requirements.

Certain operational roles in the County’s Emergency Operations Plan may require additional training and experience. In addition, these roles typically require you to apply to the Montgomery County Government to become a registered volunteer. This is a separate application process, and requires that you undergo a background check.

If all of this sounds intimidating, don’t worry. It is a straightforward process, and we’ll help you through it. Because of the nature of our mission, a certain amount of protocol is required, but our goal is to get you involved as quickly as possible with one or more of our interesting projects and activities.

Thank you for volunteering to make us a more capable organization!
